Our Founder’s Story

From Death to Life

Sometimes it helps to hear a story to know there is hope in overcoming the trauma and loss of abortion. But we also need to recognize that without the church becoming safe, many people will remain in a place of worldly sorrow that brings death.

"Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:

‘Now have come the salvation and the power
    and the kingdom of our God,
    and the authority of his Messiah.
For the accuser of our brothers and sisters,
    who accuses them before our God day and night,
    has been hurled down.
They triumphed over him
    by the blood of the Lamb
    and by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so much
    as to shrink from death."

                                                                                             ~ Revelation 12:10-11

The church was God's idea, so I'm not condemning it. He placed Jesus as Head over all things concerning the church, and His followers are His body. But in some ways we have not done well representing Jesus. Sometimes we don't know how to best handle a situation, so we just wing it and people get hurt. I believe that is what happened to me personally when I went to my church for help. They had not thought through how to help someone in an unwed pregnancy before I arrived. I really expected them to help me know what to do. I knew nothing about prenatal development or abortion. I didn't want an abortion; I wanted help! I needed someone to walk through this scary time with me. But that is not what happened.
I'm not going to blame the church or even the individual who met with me. Forgive them, Father, for they knew not what they were doing! But I was deeply troubled after I left there. And because they were not there for me, I thought I had no where to turn except to the world. I can't go back in time, but I often wish I would have taken the time to fall on my knees before the Lord and ask Him for guidance. But I didn't. That's my fault. I knew better. When you watch the video From Death to Life you will see that God still worked everything for my good and His glory.
Having grown up in a Christian home, I thought that the church was the one safe place to go for help. I learned God's character from an early age. It took me decades to realize that when a church does not treat a person with the truth in love, they are not representing Jesus. It doesn't mean that Jesus is bad or that God failed you there. It simply means that the church has some work to do. We're not here to criticize the church, but to come alongside her with resources that will help her minister well to people in previously unmentionable situations, especially those involving sexuality, pregnancy, and abortion.
